Baugo Resident and Friend - Al Stealy and Author Brad Wright

As the author of this historical collection, I have spent over twenty- five years compiling, gathering, and categorizing  information on the history of Baugo Township. I attended the Jimtown Schools from 1965-1977 and I have always had a fascination of history, especially about the area I lived in. In the early eighties I attended a seminar put on by two cousins about the history of Elkhart.

Virginia and Betty turned me on to a new hobby. I volunteered my time, just like they did, to continue researching Elkhart, but my interest was in Baugo Township. Soon our friendship grew and other people had similar interest in preserving the past. With the support and growth of this group we called ourselves,

 “Elkhart City Historical Researchers”

and we each had our own historical interests. I was able to for many years display, promote and gather much needed information at what was started and called

“Elkhart History Day’s.

This book is full of information from the Indians, to tanneries, grist mills and the progress of the Baugo Communities School. This book includes records and copies of rare documents as well as plat maps as far back as 1872. There is Genealogy on many families as well as a list of business and community groups. This book is to be known as the second book published on the History of Baugo Township.
